How Technology Is Reshaping Radiology Recruiting

Radiology groups are operating in a different recruiting environment than they were even a few years ago.

In this webinar clip, Joseph Guiffrida, Chief Operations Officer at ARA Health Specialists, discusses how expectations around technology are starting to influence how groups think about attracting and retaining radiologists.

As he explains, many physicians coming out of training today are already familiar with newer technologies, including AI tools and more flexible ways of accessing information. That experience shapes what they expect when they enter practice.

For private radiology groups, that creates a practical consideration: how to remain competitive for new hires while maintaining existing workflows and standards.

Guiffrida describes an approach that’s intentionally not static. Rather than assuming current tools and workflows will remain sufficient, the focus is on staying open to change. Still, that doesn’t mean every new technology will be immediately adopted.

In fact, he notes that some tools — like reviewing studies or information on a phone — may not be widely used by current radiologists. But that doesn’t necessarily reflect what future hires will expect. A radiologist entering the workforce in the coming years may have trained in an environment where those capabilities were standard.

If that’s the case, the question becomes less about whether current teams use a given tool, and more about whether future teams will expect it. Technology becomes part of how a group presents itself — not just in terms of efficiency or performance but as a signal of whether it’s forward-looking and adaptable.

At the same time, Guiffrida emphasizes an important constraint: any new capability must meet the same standards for patient care and quality. If a tool can be introduced without compromising those priorities, it becomes something worth considering — even if it represents a shift from how things are done today.
