Even With AI, Accountability Stays With the Radiologist

AI tools are becoming more common in radiology — not just within practices but outside of them as well.
In this webinar clip, Melissa A. Davis, MD, MBA, Vice Chair of Medical Informatics at Yale University, discusses how that shift is showing up in day-to-day practice.
Radiologists are now responding not just to the report but to interpretations generated outside the clinical workflow.
At the same time, adopting AI tools within a practice isn’t a one-time decision.
As Dr. Davis describes, these tools require ongoing monitoring — not just implementation. Practices need to evaluate whether they’re working as expected, what they’re flagging and how information is being shared.
That’s where governance comes in. Who sees what, what gets communicated and how outputs are used all need to be defined — because, ultimately, responsibility doesn’t change. Even with AI in the workflow, the radiologist is still accountable for the final report and patient care.
This clip is part of a broader discussion on how radiology organizations are evaluating and adopting new technologies. To hear more, you can access the full on-demand webinar.
