The Imaging Wire Interview: Inside the RSNA Ventures–Rad AI Partnership and What It Means for Radiologists

Radiologists are under mounting pressure as imaging volumes and case complexity continue to rise far faster than the workforce can grow. At the same time, the amount of medical knowledge they’re expected to navigate expands every year, making day-to-day practice more cognitively demanding than ever. Traditional reporting solutions haven’t kept pace, leaving many radiologists with workflows that are too fragmented and too dependent on manual effort.
With these realities in mind, Brian Casey, managing editor, The Imaging Wire, stopped by the Rad AI booth at RSNA for a discussion with Adam Flanders, MD, RSNA board member and Liaison for Information Technology, and Demetri Giannikopoulos, Chief Innovation Officer at Rad AI, to discuss how the RSNA Ventures–Rad AI partnership is designed to meet those challenges head-on.
As Dr. Flanders explained, the mission of RSNA Ventures is “to actually create new and innovative products that are going to help the radiologists through their day and the patients we serve” by integrating more than a century of trusted RSNA knowledge directly into the reporting workflow, helping radiologists stay grounded in evidence without relying on memory or time-consuming searches, ultimately supporting consistency, efficiency, and high-quality patient care.

Giannikopoulos also introduced Rad AI’s newest advancement in speech recognition, sharing why this technology represents an important step toward helping radiologists stay focused on what matters most: diagnosing, not documenting.
As he puts it, “we’re going from historical speech recognition to speech understanding.”
Unlike traditional speech tools that simply convert audio to text, Rad AI’s next-generation model is designed to understand medical terminology, handle overlapping speech, and adapt to each radiologist’s voice. This shift toward true “speech understanding” helps radiologists “speak less and say more,” reducing corrections and allowing them to stay focused on image interpretation.
